A common question we receive is “What type of padlock should I purchase?” or “Are padlocks safe?” and “Are combination types as good as keyed?”

This is a tough question because just about all padlocks can be defeated without much effort, and the combination locks that come to mind are not available to the general public. Never buy the cheaper combo padlock, some can be opened with just the use of a shoestring.

Keyed padlocks I think provide almost no security, just to keep the honest, honest. Keys can be lost, duplicated or the lock picked And with all padlocks, they can be cut with boltcutters or the hasp can be cut with the right tool.
